Are Utah County People Ready for Halloween

What do Utah County families do for Halloween?

Some of the things I’ve heard are a big gathering at a parking lot – a “Trunk or Treat”.

There’s the common “door to door” approach, which many Utah people are great at due to their mission experience.

What do you do?

What’s your favorite Halloween Costume?

Wonder if any of these costumes would be Utah County “worthy”?

Family Activities in Utah County (pics)

If you’re looking for fun things to do with your family in Utah County this spring and summer, here are a few pictures that may give you some ideas.

Bridal Veil Falls is a great place to go hiking, biking, or a simple park and walk.

We also went to a fun family activity on Provo Center Street last summer where they had lots of fun activities for kids, including the pictures below ScalesandTailsUtah.com. They came with reptiles from all over the world.

Since Utah County is “Happy Valley”, there are definitely a lot of fun things to do with family.

What are some of your favorite things to do as a family in Utah County?

Utah County Sledding – Is it Safe?

At least five serious sledding accidents over the past several days and more snow is coming!

These sledding accidents in Utah County and around the state have triggered warnings from both doctors and paramedics.

Dr. Lorin Browne, an emergency physician at Primary Children’s Medical Center, says on the right hills and in the right environment, sleds can travel as fast, or faster than a snowboard or a ski. That’s why they recommend a skiing-certified helmet.

Browne says, “The American Academy of Orthopedics actually recommends not only a helmet, but that when you go down you separate younger children from older children.”

On one side, the bigger and older children who go faster, and on the other side the younger children.

Browne also recommends parents scope out sledding areas. Look for hills no steeper than 30 degrees and a long, flat area where the sleds can slow down and come to a stop. There should be no trees, no parking lots and no streets unless there are cushioned barricades.

4 Reasons I’m Glad to Live in Utah County (PICS)

Had the chance today to visit Rexburg, Idaho for a few hours.  I went to school there for a few years and really enjoyed my time camping, hiking and snowboarding at Grand Targee.

HOWEVER, as we came back home, I thought about Why I’m Glad I Live in Utah County:

  1. Four Seasons: Even though some may not like all the snow, I love how there are four distinct seasons in Utah County.
  2. Good regulation of traffic: I know, I know, this is very debatable depending on the time of day and location; but as we got on the freeway, I noticed how effective the traffic lights were to pause an influx of all the vehicles attempting to merge.  Thanks for adding the traffic meters and the car pool lane to make driving a bit easier in Utah County.
  3. Oh How Lovely are the Mountains! Mt. Timpanogus, Mt. Nebo – picturesque!
  4. So much to do, so little time: from hiking the Timpanookee trail, to fishing in Provo Canyon, to visiting the magnificent BYU campus, to eating at the number of fast food restaurants in Utah County – there is a lot of great family activities in Utah County.
