The Pita Pit in Provo, Utah has got to be one of the best places I know of to find fast, healthy food that is to-die-for-good and really fills you up.  My personal favorite at The Pita Pit is “The Aloha”, a savory blend of teriyaki-grilled chicken, ham, and pineapple with all the veggies you want and, of course, I top it off with plenty of tzatsiki sauce.  Even my husband, who groans at the healthy suggestions I often give for eating out, is sold on this one.  This pita is stuffed with all the good stuff and leaves you feeling stuffed…but without the greasy hangover.

The only warning I’d give is that it can get pretty crowded.  If the parking lot is full, you may be waiting around for quite awhile.

At around $7 per person, you definitely get your money’s worth at The Pita Pita – an innovative and delicious fast food restaurant in Provo, UT.  And they know how to treat their customers.  Last time we were there, they made a small mistake on my husband’s order, and quickly offered him a $1 off coupon for our next visit.  Isn’t it those small gestures that leave you feeling warm and fuzzy?  You’ll definitely leave The Pita Pit in Provo, Utah feeling warm, fuzzy, and satisfied.

My favorite is the California pita! The thing that I love about the Pita pit is all the options and toppings that they have for them. The best way is just to create your own pita!!!

I’m excited to try the California Pita! I agree with Becky that the Aloha is a great one. I’ve also had the Caesar with Chicken (not sure the exact name).

The Pita Pit is a great place. Just beware of the “shared parking” with Panda Express and whatever else is over there.

Thanks for the comment Laryssa. It was interesting to hear Eric’s take on the Pita Pit.

Here are a few of the highlights:

Though Pita Pit is an unorthodox fast-food restaurant because they sell a variety of pitas (a trend rarely seen in fast-food America), college students like the close proximity to many universities and the relatively inexpensive prices.

Since I am working on a pretty tight college-budget at the moment, I found that the Pita Pit was a perfect opportunity to get away from campus food for a quality lunch.

I learned from some Pita Pit employees that it was founded in Canada in 1997, as a healthy, fast-food alternative; “we came up with our own special light and tasty Lebanese-style pitas. And we vowed to fill them with only the good stuff.”

I was particularly hungry when I ventured over to Pita Pit, and being the Caesar salad-junkie that I am, I decided to order a Chicken Caesar Salad Pita and bottled water for $6.00. I was surprised, though, that they offered the choice of either a Whole-wheat pita, or White-bread pita. I decided to order the Whole-wheat, seeing that it was healthier.

The operation inside is extremely efficient, and I was able to watch the workers grill my chicken and manually construct the pita. The interior of the small-restaurant was nothing more than an operational table to make the pitas, and a cash register. Though their music was hype and relevant to my age-group, I found that there was very little personality about the restaurant. Even if the restaurant offered tables and chairs to sit down and eat, I doubt I would take that opportunity. There was no zest or spunk about the place, something that I would normally look for and relate to in a college-centered restaurant. Nevertheless, my pita and bottled water was presented to me in a very quick three minutes, and I paid a modest six dollars for the entire meal.

After sitting down across the street from the restaurant at a nearby table, I bit into my pita and was taken aback. It was terrible. Though the romaine lettuce was fresh and crunchy, it was not chilled or even cool. This wasn’t because the hot chicken lay on top of the lettuce; the restaurant placed their lettuce and condiments directly near the grills. Thus, the heat from the grills warms the condiments.

Furthermore, though the chicken was not pink, it was nonetheless undercooked, rubbery, and tasteless, and I could tell that it needed another few minutes on the grill for any flavor to be extracted. Finally, globs of Caesar dressing filled the pita’s inside. Now, like I mentioned previously, I love Caesar dressing, but Pita Pit definitely did not understand proportions in food, as the dressing was the primary flavor I tasted throughout the meal. The general pita, though, was tasty.

I would definitely not recommend Pita Pit to anyone. Though their food is relatively inexpensive, a quality meal could be bought for the same price at a Subway, for example. Additionally, the restaurant’s slogan is, “fresh thinking and healthy eating.” I really could not see either of these practices at work. My pita was filled with unhealthy, albeit tasty, Caesar dressing, and the lettuce just tasted not right. College students across the country are faced daily with the opportunity to eat at Pita Pit; my advice is to stay away at all costs.
