VIDEO: The 10 Minute Foot Massage to Die For

If you haven’t been watching our Utah County massage video series until today, you’re in luck. Here are links to the other videos that will help you know what to look for and expect in a quality massage therapist:

A lot of people are ticklish on the feet. This video will show you some tricks on how to get a great foot massage without being tickled.

Be really hard on pressure to avoid tickling nerves.

Squeeze the ankle firmly. If you push hard enough, the person you’re massaging will stop squirming.

Pull each toe – sometimes you’ll hear or feel a little pop.

Rub the foot all over: the ankle, heel, etc.

Work your way from the top to the bottom, ending with the toes (because they feel the best).

The side of the foot is a lot harder than the inside of the foot.

Always start by grabbing with hard pressure to avoid ticking the person you’re massaging. Don’t push too hard – it can hurt – but hard enough so it won’t tickle.

The best part: the TOES! Start by pulling on the toes, which separates the joints. Massage in between the toes: if feels really good. In reflexology, the feet and toes are connected the head and eyes, which helps relieve headaches.

Using lotion on the feet works better than oils: it’s smoother.

Feet aren’t too hard to massage – you just squeeze and push and go all around the foot.

VIDEO: How to Give the Best Lower Back Massage for Utah County People

Part 3 of our massage video series for Utah County residents shares how to give the best lower back massage!

Share your feedback and how these videos have helped you. Thanks for watching and sharing your tips about massage in Utah Valley.

Suggestions from the massage video:

How to do a good lower back massage!

There can be a lot of pain in the SI area (the top of your “butt muscle).

Working one side at a time is a good idea.

Go along the spine, right where the muscle meets the spine.

Have both your hands on the frame and use your thumbs to push directly.

Follow your hand down to where the ribs in. Go up and into the muscle – don’t hit a kidney.

You don’t need to massage a lot in circles, just a nice little light push and then down the side.

Once you get into the lower back, you can use that thumb massage again.

Start one side of the side with both the thumbs. It can be painful but will feel really good!

Wives, if you wear high heels a lot, have your husband watch this video and do exactly what she’s doing and you’ll feel GREAT!

The best part is when you massage both sides at the same time at the very end of your massage!

VIDEO: Sitting Neck Massage in Utah County

This is the second video in our series on Utah County massage strategies.

From the massage video:

This massage gets a bit more precise around the neck or head and even into the skull. Learn what you can give to friends or family members to make them feel relaxed and comforted.

Be really careful with lymph nodes and structures of the upper spine. Always be careful in these delicate areas.

In lymphatic massage work, there’s a location called the water-wheel that’s right below the ear – don’t apply too much pressure there.

You’ll be able to feel the anatomy if you pay attention to what you’re doing and where you are.

The ears are a nice place to massage as well; sometimes it can tickle.

When massaging the scalp, make sure you’re moving the skin underneath the hair. This will make a lot of difference because it will feel so much better when rubbing the skin as opposed to just the hair.

If you’d like, ask the person you’re massaging to relax and move their head around slightly, supporting the jaw and different ranges of motion.

Be careful to not do too much with the front of the neck: there’s too much structure in that area.

What Can a Utah County Medical Spa Do for Aging Skin?

Who doesn’t like a good “body treatment” once in a while?

We’ve been to a few Utah County Medical Spas and have found some things to look for if you want to keep your skin looking young and healthy:

  1. Dermal fillers, or soft-tissue fillers: These products can be injected into the skin to fill out areas that look hollowed or wrinkled.
  2. Botox: Botox s a purified form of botulinum toxin that is injected into targeted facial muscles to prevent and correct wrinkles and other damage related to certain facial expressions (such as squinting or frowning).
  3. Dermabrasion: Dermabrasion is a common treatment in which the top layer of skin is abraded so that a new, smoother layer grows in its place. It’s used for many skin conditions, including acne, skin cancer, and photoaging.
  4. Chemical peels: Chemical peels have many dermatological uses, including the treatment of wrinkles, age spots, and scars; a chemical solution is carefully applied to the skin to remove damaged outer layers, leaving smoother contours and an improved appearance.
  5. Laser resurfacing: Laser resurfacing helps correct wrinkles and age spots through use of a laser that vaporizes damaged skin tissue.
  6. Laser hair removal: Unwanted hair can be removed through one or more methods, including waxing, chemical depilation, electrolysis, or laser removal; for best results, all methods should be performed or supervised by an experienced dermatologist.
  7. Liposuction: Liposuction is a way to reduce visible effects of aging by vaporizing and removing unwanted fat deposits that don’t respond to diet or exercise. Common target areas include the face, chin, neck, hips, and buttocks.
  8. Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion gently scrapes away damaged and aging skin to trigger the growth of new layers.
  9. Topical medications: Topical retinoids, have been shown to reduce fine wrinkles, splotchy darkened areas, and signs of chronic sun exposure.

These may be used alone or in combination for a more complete skin care regimen. In helping you evaluate your treatment options, your physician will consider these factors:

  • Areas to be treated
  • Darkness of your skin
  • Results of past treatments
  • Personal preferences

HOW TO: Reducing Body Waxing Pain with Spas in Utah County

How many people in Utah County are into body waxing?

Based on our research, we think it’s quite a few. However, body waxing isn’t always the most comfortable.

That not-so-friendly ‘Ouch’ factor can turn many away.

Follow the following waxing tips from a Utah County Medical Spa and make your body waxing experience more enjoyable!

8 Ways to Reduce the Ouch Factor of Body Waxing

  1. Sun Block: If you’re going to be out in the sun after a body waxing session, use a good sun block so the skin doesn’t appear to be darker in the treated area. We also recommend staying out of the sun for 48 hours after waxing.
  2. Hair Length: Make sure the hair is at least one eighth of an inch long before the hair removal session.
  3. Dry Hair: Hair absorbs water and makes it soft which is not a good condition when trying to grip it in wax and pull it out! Don’t shower or wet the hair before you wax. Make sure the hair is dry.
  4. Loose Fitting Clothing: You will probably want to wear loose fitting clothing after a waxing session to avoid the skin becoming irritated. Also, tight fitting clothing on freshly waxed areas can contribute to painful ingrown hairs.
  5. Skin Exfoliation: Exfoliate the skin using an exfoliation accessory between one and two days after waxing. This gets rid of dead skin and helps prevent ingrown hairs.
  6. Avoid Acne Areas: Don’t wax on skin affected by acne. Wait for it to recover and heal before trying to remove hair.
  7. Deep Breathing Techniques: Some find that deep breathing exercise also help. Just breathe in through the nose, hold your breath for a few seconds, and then slowly let it out through the mouth. You will find the body relaxes more easily. Also it has the interesting effect of relaxing hair follicles so they let go of the hair a little more easily with constricting.
  8. Ice Cubes: Rubbing the area with an ice cube right afterwards is also recommended. This can help calm down protesting nerve endings.
